President Kim Minki of MG Natural

Practicing generosity is to give back to Korea

President Kim Minki, who’s running an agricultural corporation, MG Natural, in Damyang-gun, Jeollanam Province, was successful in his business after learning from his experience of failing three times. We followed along on his good-hearted journey filled with gratitude and sharing, as he strives day and night to achieve perfect quality in his work.

President Kim Minki’s business is about pet hedgehog food production and related products sales, and health products manufacturing and sales.

Having started in 2009 as a frog farm, the insect-based feed business failed three times, but in that process, he used his experience of making hedgehog snacks using insects that were meant as frog food, and grew into a business that produces various types of insect-based feed and health products.

Quality is competitiveness

Entering through the big steel doors, you can see various health food products and insect-based feed that are being sold popularly in the market, awaiting delivery. What stood out was the systematized large machines standing in the middle of the factory, a view that wasn’t there during the interview five years ago.

He started his health food product business by selling the likes of pumpkin juice, cabbage pills, and balsam pear pills online beginning in the spring of 2019.

He shared that ‘Cheongjindam’, a cabbage pill product, sells a lot.

Based on his experience of making insect-based feed in the beginning stages of his business, he focused on developing health supplements that people could easily consume throughout the day. As his business expanded, he introduced changes in the production system, too. He boldly abandoned insect-based feed products that weren’t popular and focused on producing the popular products.

To produce health supplements made of pills, he bought new machines such as a pill machine, dryers, and stick wrappers. He never skips any steps in the process, including maintaining cleanliness. His business philosophy is that even though the whole process is completed by machines, the producer’s sincere efforts and conscience must be input to produce good products, and quality that is perfect enough to be sold even to next-door neighbors must be ensured.

Gratitude and sharing are my happiness

“Usually in life, when we overcome a crisis in our lives, we buy meals or gifts for people who have helped as a token of gratitude. One day, I asked myself what I can do to repay South Korea, which has helped me to become who I am today. At that time, my heart answered ‘love’, and since then I’ve been experiencing what happiness means. I deeply realized that you cannot buy happiness with money alone.”

Since 2013, he has been donating 5% of his profits to ChildFund Korea. He also gave 300,000KRW every month for 3 local children from financially strained families for 5 years. For the local children’s center, he has been steadily supporting them with about 500,000KRW’s worth of chicken every month.

He cheered on ‘Dongposarang (loving compatriots)’, publishing its 100th issue, to become a series full of stories that are warm like a mother’s embrace.
